Discover University of Alberta Award - Renewable

Awarded to students who are Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents or protected persons with satisfactory academic standing entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta. Selection based on academic standing, indicated financial need, and demonstrated financial barriers to attending university. This award is renewable for up to five years of a first undergraduate degree program subject to satisfactory academic standing on a full-time course load between the most recent September to August annually.

  1. The University of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/ Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community.

    The intent of this application is to verify eligibility for the Discover University of Alberta Award and support the selection of award recipients.

    This award assists domestic students entering the University of Alberta without having completed any post-secondary coursework and who have demonstrated financial challenges and barriers to attending university. Through the program, students will be considered for up to $8,000 per year in award funding. Up to 30 new students per year will qualify for the award.

    We recognize the questions in the application are personal and will require self-reflection that may be uncomfortable or triggering to speak to. We ask that you please be candid and respond within your comfort level. Should you need mental health and well-being support or someone to talk to, we encourage you to contact the Kids Help Phone, Canadian Mental Health Association, or Hope for Wellness Help Line.
