  1. Métis Scholar Awards


    The Métis Scholar Awards are generously funded by the Métis Education Foundation and are awarded to Métis students who have a demonstrated connection to the Otipemisiwak Métis community. To be considered for these awards, applicants must be able to present documentation of their Otipemisiwak Métis Government citizenship and must be able to demonstrate their involvement with the Otipemisiwak Métis community. Additionally, to be eligible for this award, applicants must be:

    • enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program
    • must demonstrate financial need
    • have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better
    • be a Canadian citizen and a resident of Alberta
    • be a registered member of the Otipemisiwak Métis Student Association

    If you meet this criteria and wish to be considered for Métis Scholar Awards please complete all questions in this section.
    In detail, please describe your recent and continued involvement with the Otipemisiwak Métis community. Please include your role, the duration of the involvement and the direct impact you had on the Otipemisiwak Métis community. You may use elements from your previous essay, but these details must be specific to the Otipemisiwak Métis community.

  2. Applicants must be able to provide documentation of Métis identity. Please visit our website for a list of acceptable documentation.

    Students who have previously provided documentation of First Nations, Metis or Inuit identity may not be required to submit documentation again. Student Financial Support will contact those students for whom documentation is required. Failure to submit acceptable documentation will result in ineligibility for this award.

    By accepting the following statement, you confirm that you are able to submit an acceptable form of documentation to the University of Alberta. Failure to submit this documentation will result in ineligibility for this Award.

    I am able to submit First Nations, Métis or Inuit documentation to the University of Alberta to be considered for financial supports where the selection criteria requires Indigeneity. I understand that failure to provide valid documentation will result in my ineligibility for this competition. I understand that the presentation of one of the documents does not guarantee award selection, as selection is competitive.
  3. Do you declare that your name will not appear on the Government of Canada’s Indian Registry, nor a Band list pursuant to the Indian Act, and that you are neither Inuk, nor non-Status Indian.
